Titles of theses and projects
Below is a list of issues in the area of pumps and pumping systems, fans, compressed air as well as steam generation and transmission proposed as master's or engineering theses, as well as for analyzes as part of transitional works. Detailed definition of the scope and topic takes place after an interview with the Student.
Energy efficiency
- Analysis of selected following industrial systems:
- pumping and water,
- heating or thermal,
-
- compressed air,
- fan
in terms of their optimization and/or increasing energy efficiency.
- Modeling and analysis of selected thermal, hydraulic and/or compressed air installations for operation in standard and extreme conditions or investigations for the possibility of energy storage.
Pumps, pumping systems, fans
- Mathematical description of complete pump performance characteristics;
- Pump serial or parallel operation and/or untypical operation conditions;
- Pump design, flow and strength calculations of pumps using CFD tools;
- Numerical calculations of liquid flow through centrifugal pump impellers and the impact of the number and/or shape of blades on anti-cavitation properties, efficiency and forces;
- Testing the durability and reliability of the pump system based on the Barringer curve;
- Determination of EEI or MEI energy consumption indicators for pumps of the appropriate type;
- Flow calculations in the sealing gaps of rotor machines;
- Selection of pumps and/or fans for installation, determination of restrictions;
- Assessment of the impact of harmonics on energy losses in the pump supply system using a frequency converter.
- Optimization of fan operation.
- Calculation of series work of the pump system - study of the reverse flow, regulation range, energy consumption, limitations;
- Operation analysis of pumps with liquids other than water and verification based on known relationships;
- Mathematical description of the efficiency hill - determination and verification based on model tests;
Compressors
- Analysis of the opportunities of using the compressors’ waste heat;
- Optimization of compressor system operation - optimal settings, working time.
- Impact of compressed air leaks and temperature on energy consumption in typical industrial installations and determination of the costs of their minimization;
- Dynamics of loading and unloading the tank/installation of compressed air system under scheduled and emergency conditions;
- Examination of the impact of the intake air temperature and pressure value on the energy consumption of the screw compressors;
- Energy storage using compressed air systems;
- Calculation model of compressed air leaks through narrow gaps;
- Calculation model for the operation of many compressors for industrial installations.

- A several energy audits commissioned by Energomix, 2015-2016;
- Energy consumption analysis of the steam installation and compressed air system for Stomil Poznań S.A. at comisioned by Modus;
- Technical opinion on patent claims made by a ventilator device for use in window rebate, May 2016;
- Two technical opinions commissioned by the Ziehl-Abegg form regarding infringement of patent claims by the VS-450 impeller and the fan assembly installed in the ventilation unit, 2012.
